Alvin Williams as Batman.

Neptune was also Alvin's idea, based on the maritime Crossing-the-Line ceremony. When sailors on big ships crossed the equator for the first time, they would go through the ceremony (e.g. people would be ducked in water, shaved etc). This was replicated at Jubilee Pool gala near the end of the season and became part of eagerly awaited yearly entertainment. Divers were brought from out of county to do demonstrations.

Alvin was forty years treasurer/secretary of Penzance Swimming Association and Water Polo Club.

Swimming / races / water polo started after the war in around 1945.
