Sailors of the Western Union Fleet dancing on Penzance Promenade. The Western Union Fleet, comprising the officers and men of the Dutch, French and British navies, came to visit Penzance, in Jult 1949. Decorations were put up and celebrations laid on, and as word of the event spread, visitors poured in. The Cornishman newspaper reflected afterwards that There was a general impression that the town had given a brilliant account of itself.
